Sprout is provided by the legal owner to be confirmed. This policy describes the iOS app. This marketing website does not use analytics, advertising pixels, account registration, or non-essential cookies.
Scope
This policy applies to the Sprout app and the website at trysproutapp.com. It explains what information is handled, why it is used, when it reaches a service provider, how long it is kept, and the choices available to you.
Information Sprout handles
Information stored on your device
Sprout stores the information you enter and the results it creates on your device. This can include meal-planning preferences, household size, eating style, allergy and ingredient choices, weekly grocery target, meal plans, shopping-list state, kitchen inventory, supermarket choices, receipt results, and app settings.
Sprout does not require you to create an account.
Camera, barcode, and receipt information
If you choose to use camera features, Sprout requests camera access to scan a barcode, capture receipt pages, or take a temporary fridge photo. Camera access is optional and manual planning and inventory features remain available.
Receipt text recognition uses Apple's Vision framework on your device. Receipt images are used transiently to produce receipt lines and are not uploaded by Sprout or saved to your photo library. Fridge photos remain in memory during the confirmation flow and are not uploaded by Sprout or saved to your photo library.
When you scan a product barcode, Sprout sends the barcode to Open Food Facts to retrieve public product information. Returned information may be cached on your device.
Public supermarket price information
If you search for public supermarket price observations, Sprout sends the supermarket brand, country, and any city you enter to Open Prices. After you choose a branch, Sprout may send that public location identifier to retrieve recent price observations.
Purchases
Sprout uses Apple's in-app purchase system and RevenueCat to offer and manage Sprout Plus subscriptions. Apple processes payment information. RevenueCat receives purchase and entitlement information and an app-specific customer identifier so Sprout can determine whether premium access is active. Sprout does not receive your full payment-card details.
Product analytics and diagnostics
In production, Sprout uses PostHog's European service to understand feature use and improve reliability. Sprout sends approved event names, broad result categories, and aggregate counts. It may also send normal technical information such as app version, operating-system and device information, locale, network information, and IP address. Sprout uses its RevenueCat app customer identifier to keep subscription and product events associated with the same app customer.
Sprout does not enable session replay, screen recording, automatic screen-view or element-interaction capture, or automatic error capture in PostHog. Its event filter is designed not to send names, free text, allergy contents, exact spending amounts, receipt text, fridge images, or recognized ingredient names.
Notifications and in-app messages
Sprout uses Apple Push Notification service and OneSignal to prepare and deliver push notifications and in-app messages. OneSignal may receive an app or device identifier, push subscription identifier, permission state, app and device information, IP address, and message delivery or interaction information. Push notifications are delivered only after you allow them in iOS.
Sprout is designed not to send meal details, allergies, receipt contents, exact spending amounts, or kitchen contents in OneSignal tags or notification payloads.
Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, OneSignal, Open Food Facts, and Open Prices may receive technical information necessary to deliver a request, such as an IP address, device or app information, request time, and server logs. Their handling is governed by their own policies.
How information is used
Information is used to:
- Generate and maintain meal plans, recipes, grocery lists, and kitchen inventory.
- Personalize results to the choices you make.
- Recognize receipt text and retrieve public product or price information.
- Provide, restore, and validate subscription access.
- Measure product use and diagnose failures.
- Prepare and deliver notifications and in-app messages.
- Comply with legal obligations and prevent abuse.
Sprout does not sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising. Sprout does not request permission to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.
Legal bases in the EEA and UK
Where European data-protection law applies, Sprout processes information as needed to provide features and subscriptions you request, based on your consent for optional permissions, for legitimate interests such as service reliability and fraud prevention, and when required to meet legal obligations. You may withdraw consent for camera or notification access in iOS Settings.

Retention and deletion
Information stored by Sprout on your device remains there until you change it or delete the app. Deleting the app removes its locally stored data, subject to iOS backup behavior controlled by Apple.
Purchase records may be retained by Apple and RevenueCat as needed to provide subscriptions, restore purchases, prevent fraud, meet accounting requirements, and comply with law. Open Food Facts and Open Prices may retain request logs under their own policies.
PostHog and OneSignal retain service data according to the provider settings and agreements used by Sprout, including limited backup, security, and operational logs. Turning off notifications stops future push delivery but does not itself erase records already held by those providers. Contact Sprout to request deletion of provider-held identifiers where applicable.
International processing
The service providers described above may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Where required, they use legal safeguards for international transfers under their own terms and privacy policies.
Security
Sprout limits the information sent to service providers and uses platform and transport protections appropriate to the service. No system can guarantee absolute security. Keep iOS updated and protect access to your device and Apple Account.
Children's privacy
Sprout is not directed to children. Sprout does not knowingly collect personal information from a child in a way that requires parental consent. If you believe a child has provided information to Sprout or its providers, contact the privacy address below so the request can be reviewed.
Your choices and rights
You can decline camera access and continue using manual planning and inventory features. You can manage camera and notification permission in iOS Settings and manage or cancel a subscription from your Apple Account subscription settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability for information handled by the legal provider. Because most Sprout data remains only on your device and Sprout does not require an account, the provider may not possess or be able to identify that local information. Read your Sprout privacy choices.
Sprout does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If you make a privacy request, Sprout may ask for limited information needed to verify and complete it. You may also have the right to appeal a decision or contact your local data-protection authority.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when Sprout, its service providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date will be updated when changes are made.
